TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 2: Lexis

Firstly, we think, lexis is another relevant part of the correct use of English because it is connected to grammar and it gives more emphasis to the meaning through the context. Additionally, lexis is referred to individual words and sets of words which can give a meaning based on the appropriate context.

Furthermore, we have learned a lot in this unit but what it caught us the attention was the sets of words which can give a different meaning because the use of words not always give a literal meaning. It gives in many times a figurative meaning that can be found in phrasal verbs, collocations, idioms, etc. However, the use of these phrases is complex because these sets of words can be used according to the context employed to give the correct meaning in the use of these words. Moreover, we were able to learn about chunks that are pieces of language used in written and spoken language. Additionally, we could find information about false friends that are words that are similar in their speech  in both languages but different in their meaning.

To conclude, we as teachers, we will apply this knowledge in teaching through the use of many activities which involve technology, charts and practical examples to explain the use of the most common phrasal verbs, idioms, false friends and chunks that can be helpful for the whole class to get in touch with the foreign language.
