TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit: 9

                                                            Radical and Critical Pedagogy

The education is a way of learning many forms so it is consider like a vehicle of transmission information among people who are apprenticeship of the life. This is can be the key to engage students to learn because learners are social Individuals who enjoy sharing each other. Therefore, we have to concentrate the knowledge that students learn in situations where they can realize a useful purpose of lessons previous taught and then apply to convey information in their brains. Besides, the learning in classrooms have be in situations where can work in cooperative tasks enhancing their accurate ideas in broader social context.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 8: Speaking

As we have got knowledge, speaking skill is the last of the four skills of English language acquisition. This skill is as productive skill as writing skills. Speaking is engaged to produce language in learning acquisition of the foreign language to make learners to speak focused on intonation, production, tone of voice, etc.

That´s why we consider we have learned a lot based on this unit. For example, we learned that in speaking is so important to ask for clarification, using the most suitable words at the moment that someone doesn’t understand something. Moreover, we could learn to monitor at the moment of applying speaking activities in which we could notice how students are doing the activity and how we can give a feedback to improve this productive skill in the students. Additionally, we learned based on the mistakes about words and sentence stress in pronunciation which gave us a clearer idea on how to pronounce words and sentences. In addition, we noticed that we should paraphrase sentence in order to give the same meaning in other words. However, we took into consideration that the most important part in speaking is to speak fluently and naturally according to the formality and informality applied  based on the context employed and the interaction between two or more people.

To sum up, we know this unit is going to help us as teachers in English teaching language because we really know that learners needs to implement interactive strategies to produce communication between them with the purpose to convey meaning based on the accuracy through grammar and vocabulary implemented to become communicative learners of the foreign language.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 7: Listening

As we know, Listening is one of the four English skills. In this case, listening is as receptive skill as Reading. However, this skill is connected to speaking skills. Besides, listening supports meaningful sounds in context in which English learners can hear different situations and adapt them to their knowledge of the world.

For that reason, we could learn many about this skill because we noticed that listening skills has the same sub skills like reading. Besides, this receptive skill is mostly applied to spoken language according to the process of using listening and the features that it provided to us in our learning and knowledge acquired. Additionally, we focused our learning in the text types of listening applied in the tone of voice, emotions and feelings of the speakers at the moment of developing this skill. Moreover, the sub skills which we learned were the same as reading because, we could understand more about listening for gist and global understanding to get the main idea of the context employed. Also, we developed listening for detail to find out specific information. In addition, we were able listen to infer the attitude of the speakers to find information that is not explicit from the text. Finally, we managed how to identify functions of the texts and how these were applied appropriately by the speakers.

To conclude, we have got to admit that this skill is very challenging for us but we will get on with improving the knowledge of this skill because we expect as teachers to get involved so long listening in teaching for our students creating interaction partners to become a more social environment in the class. Given that, this skill is as relevant as the other skills in any language.  Making to hear conversations, dialogs, interviews according to topics of interest of the students.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 6: Writing

Beforehand, we have got to tell that writing is another of the four skills of English language. However this is a productive skill like speaking skills. Writing is connected to reading in order to understand short and long texts that can be written according to the appropriacy employed in the language but also depends mostly on the text types that are written according to the formality.

For that reason, we admit that we learned many of this unit because we could learn how a text can be written according to the layouts and the organization. Besides, we were able to learn that to write a text is necessary to write according to the complexity and the accuracy of what we plan to write because a text is composed by sentences and paragraphs in an appropriate way. Additionally, we understood that writing has got cohesion and coherence of what is trying out the text and the functions of each sentence in the text. Moreover, we could use some of the sub skills to practice writing such as: Brainstorming, drafting, proofreading and re-drafting. However the most important thing that we ´ve learned was that in writing is so important a topic sentence to achieve a well- designed writing.

To sum up, we will be able to deal with writing in teaching because we will show our students how to deal with this skill focused on the correct organization of some short text according to the topic we are going to check and finding problems in this skill to find out solutions as soon as possible to develop this productive skill and help them to improve techniques and writing activies.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 5: Reading

To start checking this unit, it is so relevant to identify that this skill is a receptive skill as same as listening skills. Reading is a skill in which it is necessary to understand  shorts and long texts focused mainly on the topics employed and their knowledge of the world.

We have got to say that this unit was very impressive for us because we learned how to apply reading successfully through some of the most important sub skills of this unit. For example, we understood how to predict a text before reading based on pictures and some keywords to identify what the text was about. Besides, another sub skill was skimming to get the overall idea of the text. Moreover, we learned how to deduce meaning from context with no necessity of using a dictionary because we were able to deduce the meaning of some unknown words to solve exercises. Additionally, we enjoyed learning scanning to get specific information about the text and solve the exercises that are part of this skill. For that reason, we know that a text is well-organized because there is cohesion and coherence focused on the language employed and how each paragraph is connected with the whole text.

It is clear that, we will deal with this skill in teaching because there are a lot of activities that can be applied before, during and after reading in the class because it is relevant that students develop their knowledge of the world through reading based on intensive and extensive readings mainly with relevant topics that students could enjoy reading inside and outside of the class.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 4: Functions

To take up checking this unit, it is essential to know something about functions. Function is the reason and purpose to speak or produce the foreign language more appropriately depending on the context employed. These situations can be applied for apologizing, clarifying, inviting, etc. These contexts are some examples of functions which are used in real situations with the foreign language.

Primarily, we learned from this unit about how to use the functions in a more real situation because language is not only speaking. Given that, a function is how we can use our words, sentences and intonation that we can convey according to our thoughts, feelings, emotions and how these can be applied into a context. For that reason, the exponent is the person that express an idea using verbal and non-verbal communication. However, we understood that to apply a function appropriately is common to use this based on levels of formality according to formal (social) and informal (casual) language. A clear example of formal language is an interview. On the other hand, a clear example of informal language is a conversation between friends. In this part, it is useful to use colloquial language according to the appropriacy.

On the whole, in teaching, we will be able to use most of the time functions because students need to identify how the language can be used formally or informally according to the context employed for the benefit to the students to get in touch with English and cover their necessity of becoming good communicators of the foreign language.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 3: Phonology

For this unit it is so important to notice about the sounds which give more emphasis to pronunciation according to the phonemic chart of each letter. In this case consonant and vowel sounds of English language. That´s why this unit is more focused on the spoken use of English than written use of the foreign language.

Resultado de imagen para Phonemic chart

For that reason, we were able to learn many about phonology because this topic is related about distinguishing the sounds of the english alphabet  that can be produced by the mouth. On the other hand, letters can be added to words and change their parts of speech and the pronunciation, too. Besides, another thing that we understood was that the smallest unit of a sound is called phoneme and how a word can be pronounced appropriately. Additionally, we could notice the pronunciation of each letter according to the phonemic chart which can vary the way of speaking. For that reason, there are diphthongs, vowels, consonants, etc. These are employed for the speaking part of the language. In addition, in the phonemic chart there are voiced sounds and unvoiced sounds that are pronounced and mispronounced because of the lack of practicing because it topic is so complex to pay attention. However, voiced and unvoiced sounds are the most important part in phonology.

It is clear that, we as teachers have got to find solutions in teaching of English language in which we will have got to model some of the most common words used in the class and make our students to listen the intonation and the stress not just for words. It is also referred to sentences and where it can be placed the main stress and secondary stress. That´s why, we will have to use activities and strategies to understand clearly unvoiced  and voiced sounds that are going to be applied into the class to give more clarification to the students.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 2: Lexis

Firstly, we think, lexis is another relevant part of the correct use of English because it is connected to grammar and it gives more emphasis to the meaning through the context. Additionally, lexis is referred to individual words and sets of words which can give a meaning based on the appropriate context.

Furthermore, we have learned a lot in this unit but what it caught us the attention was the sets of words which can give a different meaning because the use of words not always give a literal meaning. It gives in many times a figurative meaning that can be found in phrasal verbs, collocations, idioms, etc. However, the use of these phrases is complex because these sets of words can be used according to the context employed to give the correct meaning in the use of these words. Moreover, we were able to learn about chunks that are pieces of language used in written and spoken language. Additionally, we could find information about false friends that are words that are similar in their speech  in both languages but different in their meaning.

To conclude, we as teachers, we will apply this knowledge in teaching through the use of many activities which involve technology, charts and practical examples to explain the use of the most common phrasal verbs, idioms, false friends and chunks that can be helpful for the whole class to get in touch with the foreign language.

TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 1: Grammar

Unit 1 : Grammar

First of all, we have to admit that grammar is a huge important part of English because it is focused on combining, organizing words to create sentences which give a particular meaning according to the context employed.

For that reason, we consider we have learned many things about grammar because this unit is connected to the language to speak, to listen, to read, and to write appropriately in the foreign language. In other words, grammar is put together with the four English language skills (Reading, writing, listening and speaking. Besides, Grammar is an essential part of the language in which the teacher is focused on describing the language according to large forms and uses that are applied from mechanical uses of grammar. Additionally, we were able to understand the use of prefixes and suffixes which can give antonyms or changes of the part of speech of a base word related to verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, etc.

Finally, we will apply this knowledge in a teaching situation based on strategies such as: charts, work class activities and handouts to explain about prefixes that can be added to words to create antonym words. Moreover, we will apply the same strategies with suffixes to change the part of speech of the most useful words according to the grammatical use to convey properly meaning focused  on the context employed to provide to the class more knowledge particularly about this topic which is essential for all of them.
