TKT Teaching Knowledge Test Unit 5: Reading

To start checking this unit, it is so relevant to identify that this skill is a receptive skill as same as listening skills. Reading is a skill in which it is necessary to understand  shorts and long texts focused mainly on the topics employed and their knowledge of the world.

We have got to say that this unit was very impressive for us because we learned how to apply reading successfully through some of the most important sub skills of this unit. For example, we understood how to predict a text before reading based on pictures and some keywords to identify what the text was about. Besides, another sub skill was skimming to get the overall idea of the text. Moreover, we learned how to deduce meaning from context with no necessity of using a dictionary because we were able to deduce the meaning of some unknown words to solve exercises. Additionally, we enjoyed learning scanning to get specific information about the text and solve the exercises that are part of this skill. For that reason, we know that a text is well-organized because there is cohesion and coherence focused on the language employed and how each paragraph is connected with the whole text.

It is clear that, we will deal with this skill in teaching because there are a lot of activities that can be applied before, during and after reading in the class because it is relevant that students develop their knowledge of the world through reading based on intensive and extensive readings mainly with relevant topics that students could enjoy reading inside and outside of the class.
